Minimalist coffee table by Jacques Quinet (1918-1992), having a light-as-air appearing base of orthogonally arranged iron straps that cradle a square glass top 15.75 inches high, France, designed 1969. model no. 5254.

One of the last great French decorators of the 20th century, Quinet approached design with a certain mathematical precision which transitioned fluidly into Minimalism in the 1960s. As a sort of meditative process, during the decade he developed a series of geometry-driven tables using symmetrically intertwined metal straps. This coffee table from 1969, achieves a palpable sense of balance, using confident lines and inventive configurations that speak to Quinet’s Zen-like sense of perfection born of repetition.
