19th century “porphyry” vase

Porphry, or perhaps granite, evoking Neoclasscial vase by Höganäs potter Nils Perhrsson* (active mid-19th century), having a muscular geometrically-modeled tapered form, with design in matte black over apurple-red base (red-hued earthenware given a cooling thin blue wash), Sweden, mid-10th century; stamped with the straight “HÖGANÄS” stamp, used though the 19th century until 1915, and script “PS,” the mark of Nils Pehrsson (possibly “JS,” which would indicate Johan Söderberg, a contemporary of Pehrsson’s)
