Folke Bensow for Näfveqvarns Bruk

Bench with highly sculptural ends with sloping sides, scrolling top and prominent anthemia in relief designed by architect Folke Bensow (1886-1971) for Näfveqvarns Bruk (Model: Parkbänk Nr. 1), in painted cast iron with pine slat seat, Sweden 1920s; foundry name in relief.

This model was on exhibit at the 1925 Exposition in Paris. Folke Bensow was one of the founders of the Modern Classicism movement. His 1917 design for a textile factory in Norrköping is one of the first modern buildings in Sweden in a classical idiom. (The building is now a museum.)
